This team has gone with the superb athletes so far: LeBron James and Josh Smith. It looks like the executive board for this team has opted to add to the high octane offense instead of addressing positional issues. The point guard and center spots will have to wait.

Round 3, Pick 1: Jason Richardson, SG/SF, Charlotte Bobcats

Here are J-Rich’s best and worst statistical averages over the last three seasons.

Best: 82 GP, 44.6 FG%, 75.2 FT%, 23.2 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 3.4 apg, 3.0 3pg, 1.4 spg, 0.7 bpg, 1.6 topg

Worst: 51 GP, 41.7 FG5, 65.7 FT%, 16.0 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 3.1 apg, 2.2 3pg, 1.1 spg, 0.5 bpg, 2.2 topg

Most of the three-year low numbers come from his injury-shortened 2006-07 season, the last year he donned the uniform of the Golden State Warriors. Ideally a starting fantasy two-guard scores a ton, drains a lot of threes, steals the rock regularly and is money from the line. J-Rich used to be a percentage killer, but he shot a respectable but not dominant 75.2% from the charity stripe last year. We will see if he can keep that up, but otherwise he is just what the doctor ordered. Look at the three-pointer average…THREE three-pointers A GAME.

How many players last year averaged two moneyballs and at least five boards last year? J-Rich, Rashard Lewis, Mike Miller, Danny Granger, Mike Dunleavy and Hedo Turkoglu make six. Granger and ‘Shard were taken in the latter stages of the second round, and it will not be too long before the other guys get picked.

Yes, shooting guard is deep, and yes, there will be value later on in the draft at this positiong. But in the first few rounds, players that can both 1) dominate the rarer categories and 2) provide nice contributions across the board, should be drafted with confidence. Larry Brown coaches the Bobcats now, and his nomadic career and reputation brings up a number of question marks to Charlotte. However, Allen Iverson led the league in scoring with Brown at the helm, and he will know to put the ball in the hands of his best scorers. It would not be a surprise if J-Rich increases his scoring average this year.
