First Look: Friday, February 27

Description
Another Thursday, another crappy couple games.  The first game put me to sleep, and well, even my own team couldn’t wake me up in the second game.  With two games, there’s pretty slim pickens for the day’s best, but here it is…

Thursday’s best: Lamar Odom.  He had 23 points, 9 boards, and 4 assists with 3 blocks, but the impressive part was him going 11-12 from the field.  The Lakers shot 54%, the Suns played without Steve Nash, and the Lakers won by 26.  Go figure.

Thursday’s worst: You know what, this isn’t exactly a horrible line, but it’s a bad game for this guy.  And with two games on Thursday, he wins (or loses).  LeBron James.  Why?  I mean the guy had 21 points.  Well, he had zero assists and one rebound.  No wonder the Cavs looked awful.

Keep an eye on: Anderson Varejao.  Pretty nasty injury tonight to Ben Wallace, and he could miss some time.  Andy V will get those minutes and produce.  He might be worth a gamble in deep leagues.  Grab him now before people start to wake up.

What to watch for Friday: A few really good games worth watching if you can.  The Cavs take on the Spurs in Texas, and the Lakers travel to Denver for the second game of a back-to-back.  And… wait for it… a little bit longer… it’s coming… THE CLIPPERS AND THE KINGS!!  I mean, it’s an even matchup…

Andris Biedrins Makes Me Nervous

Andris BiedrinsThis may just be the skeptic in me, but I think I’ll be staying away from Andris Biedrins this year.  He could be my “contract year” guy of yesteryear, that simply won’t put up numbers worth the money he’ll be getting paid.

After signing Monta Ellis to a new lucrative deal, the Warriors used up another $60 million on the Latvian big man with the crazy-spiked hair.  With Elton Brand going East, and Baron Davis going to L.A., the Warriors may have felt that they’re just going to roll on with a core group of guys; and $120 million of that will go towards the aforementioned pair.

Luis Scola - Fantasy BasketballWire to Wire aims to be your waiver wire resource for all of your fantasy basketball needs. It will dive into playing time trends, injury replacements, and even an occasional category specialist—all of which can be found on a typical waiver wire within your fantasy league at any given time

While owners are frantically looking for the players who will go from unknown to fantasy playoff superstars in the matter of weeks (Walter Herrmann circa 2007), we have all been confronted with a bevy of superstar injuries.  While the Gerald Wallace concussion hurts, no injury will likely impact the final weeks more than Houston’s Yao Ming calling it a season.  The rotations have ironed themselves out, and we now know who needs to be added where.  Hopefully your opponents have been asleep at the wheel as we have a ton of fantasy assets out there on the wire as we speak.

Another injury in Washington seems to have opened up some playing time for a few guys who were struggling to get touches as early as a few weeks ago.  If small-ball isn’t your thing, then take a gander at some of the “bigs” that we have going this week.  One of them fell threw the cracks last week, so here’s hoping that he fell through your leagues’ as well.

Dropping Dimes Mock Draft 2007: Round 6, Pick 10 - Zydrunas Ilgauskas

Zydrunas Ilgauskas - Fantasy BasketballThe Fantasy Season lurks right around the corner
Will it finish like a nursery rhyme, say Little Jack Horner

Or will it be a nightmare, say Elm Street with Freddy
Especially with the Clippers, save Corey Maggette

Some players will break through, while others will be duds
Drafters will hunt for the former, like a bunch of Elmer Fudds

Some players are all GQ, like D Wade or Kobe
But this round, I’ll go UGLY and draft me Big Z!

Only a few nights back from All-Star weekend, and we’ve already had our first superstar go down with a major injury. All-World guard Dwyane Wade could miss up to six weeks with a separated shoulder. While this is truly unfortunate, it will provide a lot of opportunities for other players. Couple this with a few teams experiencing holes of their own, and we have ourselves yet another week of solid waiver wire potential.
