Dropping Dimes Mock Draft: The Fifth Round

Posted by Alvin Lai Categories: H2H, Site Features, Talent

The season has started, so we have decided to wrap up our mock draft blog. Unfortunately we only got through four rounds. Refer to the master list for a recap of the picks. Hopefully your own draft(s) went well, and my condolences if you drafted Greg Oden. Oden obviously has a lot of potential and hopefully his ankle injury on opening night is not serious.

Just for the interest of our readers, here are the players we had slated to write about in the fifth round.

Beyond the Arc: Week 19

Description
We’re almost at the finish line and it’s time to start readying the troops for the final countdown.

How’s that for some drama?  It’s time for any last minute trades, so assess your rosters, make that deal and keep your eyes peeled to the waiver wire.  This is where championships are won, especially in H2H, where a good chunk of the best players in the league will sit out the fantasy finals.  The good news is that both conferences are set up for some tight races with a lot of jostling around with seeding, so hopefully this year more than ever we see very few guys sitting out their last few team games.  We can only hope so.

Dropping Dimes Mock Draft 2007: Round 6, Pick 6 - Samuel Dalembert

New Spirit. New Attitude. Same Underachieving Sammy.

The Fig Cap: New Spirit. New Attitude. Same Underachieving Sammy.

With that determined look in his eyes, pogo sticks for legs and pterodactyl-like wingspan, nearly everyone expected by now that Samuel Dalembert would have evolved into a top flight center capable of dominating the game on both ends of the floor. Alas, for all of his blessed gifts, he was also burdened with rocks for hands and a penchant for injuries. In fact, he’s still dealing with a stress reaction (read: nearly broken bone) in his left foot. Even so, the risk is worth the reward when the positives look like 1.9 bpg, 8.9 rpg and 54.1 FG% on 10.7 ppg in 2006-07 and the negatives are more real-life related – early foul trouble, goaltending and an inability to catch an interior pass – than fantasy related.

Round 6, Pick 6: Samuel Dalembert, C, Philadelphia 76ers

Dropping Dimes Mock Draft 2007: Round 6, Pick 5 - Andre Miller

Andre Miller
Andre Miller is not flashy.  At all.  He averages a whopping 14.1 points over his career.  He’s probably never dunked a ball.  There is nothing exciting about the man at all.  So why do fantasy owners love him?  His 7.6 career assists.

He’s the perfect compliment to a team who doesn’t have an All-Star point guard, or one that plans on going cheap at the position.  I mean come on, I’m getting all these assists halfway through the draft.  So what’s wrong with the guy?  Nothing, and that is why he’s a perfect pick at this stage.

So if you didn’t get Steve Nash or Gilbert Arenas or you want some security for injury-plagued Baron Davis or the declining Chauncey Billups, keep your eyes peeled for Miller.  You’ll like him more than Stephon Marbury or Jameer Nelson and their bad percentages later on, I promise you.

Round 6, Pick 5: Andre Miller, PG, Philadelphia 76ers

Dropping Dimes Mock Draft 2007: Round 5, Pick 3 - Mo Williams

Mo Williams

GUEST BLOGGER: Eno Sarris from The Fantasy Lounge

The Fig Cap: In the words of the immortal Trevor Tahiem Smith Jr, “Gimme some MO!”

I promise you won’t have to know Busta Rhymes’ real name in order to understand why Mo Williams is a solid point guard worth drafting this high. You may have to get that song out of your head before you can continue on after the jump, though.

Round 5, Pick 3: Maurice Williams, PG, Milwaukee Bucks

Fantasy Impact: Allen Iverson Trade

Allen Iverson get the grimace off your face - you're heading West!Christmas came early for Allen Iverson owners in the world of fantasy basketball thanks to the Philadelphia 76ers finally trading their disgruntled point guard to the Denver Nuggets along with rookie SF/PF Ivan McFarlin for PG Andre Miller, PF Joe Smith, and two 2007 draft picks.  Yes, there was much joy and merrymaking since AI, who had not played since December 6 against the Chicago Bulls, will now take to the hardwood instead of getting the much hated DNP, the very bane of fantasy hoops owners.

So, the question now is, what will be the fantasy impact for the players involved in the trade be?  Here’s the Answer, literally and nicknamedly – this is a word, right?  Subsequent players are listed in terms of degree of fantasy impact.
