Stat’s All Folks: He’s Playing Better Than The Quality Of His Shoes
Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: Disses, Free Agency, H2H, Injuries, Props, Rookies, Roto, Site Features, Sleepers, Waiver Pick Ups
Stat’s All Folks will be a week-to-week stock market look at the standard cumulative categories – points, assists, rebounds, three-pointers made, steals, and blocks.
I’ll be calling out the “bulls” and “bears” in each category, in order to help you assess your portfolio of players on your fantasy basketball team(s) and whether you should sell, hold, and/or diversify your assets.
Note that you won’t always see the superstar player written about in this column, otherwise it would be LeBron James or Steve Nash every week. So, check out who’s bullish and who’s bearish coming into the week.
Statistics are from February 23rd – March 1st.
POINTSBULLISH
Stephon Marbury, PG, New York Knicks
Last Week’s Numbers of Note: 4 G; 23.0 PPG; 46.8 FG%; 78.6 FT%
Marbury has been playing like the Starbury of old, the self-proclaimed “best point guard” in the NBA. It’s funny how that was statement was associated with Steve Nash who then went on to back-to-back MVP awards. However, this is not to bash Steph, but to praise him. In his last four games he’s scored at least 22 points and with backcourt mate Jamal Crawford, the only consistent Knicks guard this season, possibly out for the season, you can expect Marbury’s value to keep rising, especially with the Knicks having a chance at the playoffs thanks to playing in the Leastern Conference.

Stat’s All, Folks: Melo Is Still Da Man!

POINTSBULLISH
Carmelo Anthony, SF, Denver Nuggets
Last Week’s Numbers of Note: 4 G; 29.5 PPG; 44.1 FG%; 76.2 FT%
To all the head coaches in the Western Conference that did not choose Anthony as an All-Star reserve, I agree with you. That one punch and immediate backpedal against the New York Knicks was enough to sully all the hard work Melo had put forth in cleaning his rep beforehand. But, this is fantasy and whether you love him or hate him in real life, it doesn’t matter here. What also doesn’t matter is that Allen Iverson is now on the same team as Anthony because Melo is still getting his looks and scoring near his seasonal average since coming back from serving his suspension – 30 ppg in six games. In fantasy, you shouldn’t snub Melo, even with the Answer in Denver.

Injury Lowdown: Surprise, Surprise Shaq Is Out!
Posted by Ron Chow Categories: Atlantic Division, Boston Celtics, New Jersey Nets, Central Division, Milwaukee Bucks, Injuries, Northwest Division, Denver Nuggets, Utah Jazz, Site Features, Southeast Division, Miami Heat, Southwest Division, Dallas Mavericks, New Orleans Hornets
It was reported on Friday November 17, Miami Heat Center Shaquille O’Neal will need surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee and will be out four to six weeks. It was originally diagnosed that Shaq was out due to a hyperextended left knee. Shaq has already missed five of the Heat’s nine game played so far.
Reported earlier this week on November 16, Milwaukee Bucks Forward Charlie Villanueva will miss at least four weeks due to a torn ligament in his left elbow. He suffered the injury on Tuesday’s game against Atlanta when he took a hard fall on his elbow.
The Denver Nuggets’ Kenyon Martin is done like a Thanksgiving turkey after the leftovers are taken to lunch the week after Thanksgiving. K-Mart had microfracture surgery on his right knee and will be out for the rest of the season. Kenyon had microfracture surgery on his left knee 18 months ago. It is hard enough to recover from microfracture surgery on one knee but for both knees?! I hope this is not the end of Kenyon Martin’s career.

Dropping Dimes’ Experts Roto League: Ron Chow’s Team

It can be hard to pick in the middle. You miss out on the top four or five options in the game. After that, 11-12 players go off the board between each and every pick you make. Ron landed in the number six position for our draft and I think he fared quite well. He is relying on some veterans to bounce but also has a nice collection of younger players ready to step up their game.
For a list of all the draft picks, click here. Let us now take a look at what Ron thinks of his team.

Dropping Dimes’ Position Rankings: Small Forwards
Posted by Alvin Lai Categories: Atlantic Division, Central Division, H2H, Northwest Division, Pacific Division, Props, Roto, Site Features, Southeast Division, Southwest Division, Talent

Good fantasy teams ask this from their small forwards. 1) Be a main scorer for the team. 2) Shoot enough threes, dish the rock and grab those steals to help out the guards on the team. 3) Hit the boards and block some shots to support the big men on the roster. 4) Everything else being equal, shoot good percentages from anywhere on the court.
It seems like a tall order, and only the superstars are able to do all of the above. That is why several players from this position will be drafted in the first two rounds despite the large number of viable options. In reality this position is even deeper than listed below, but some players were put at shooting guard and others at power forward.
The four staff members at Dropping Dimes were asked to rank the top 25 at each position. The top player received one “point,” the second player received two points, etc. Players who were not in the top 25, but thought to be able to crack the top 25 at some point in the season were given a value of 30. Players not on the radar were given a value of 40. The average ranking is listed in parentheses after the player’s team name.
