Stat’s All Folks will be a week-to-week stock market look at the standard cumulative categories – points, assists, rebounds, three-pointers made, steals, and blocks. I’ll be calling out the “bulls” and “bears” in each category, in order to help you assess your portfolio of players on your fantasy basketball team(s) and whether you should sell, hold, and/or diversify your assets.
Note that you won’t always see the superstar player written about in this column, otherwise it would be LeBron James or Steve Nash every week. So, check out who’s bullish and who’s bearish coming into the week.

POINTS
BULLISH
Chris Bosh, PF/C, Toronto Raptors
Last Week’s Numbers of Note: 3 G; 30.7 PPG; 51.8 FG%; 87.2 FT%
Next weekend Bosh will be going to the All-Star game for the first time in his career as a starter (Thanks, Mark!). And looking at the trends for this season and his career, it won’t be the only time. In the past week, CB4 has flexed his scoring muscle like he owned Hulk Hogan’s 24-inch pythons! Check the scoring average trend for each month: November – 20.5 in 15 games; December – 20.5 in four games; January – 25.4 in 15 games; and 30.7 in three games thus far this month. In his last game, Bosh scored a career-high 41 points in a Young Beasts Down In The Box matchup against the Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard. CB4 even showed some clutch game by scoring 31 of those 41 points in the second half to lead the Raptors to victory. And if you have Bosh on your fantasy team, he’ll do the same for you. Brother!!!

How does Iverson come back from sitting out two games because of injury? Here’s the “answer” – AI drops 46 points on the Chicago Bulls in a 123-108 Sixers win his first game back. The next night against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Iverson scores 31 points, which made many wonder if he was still suffering from injury because he only scored 31 points (sarcasm fully intended). However, AI dispelled any worries about his scoring deficiencies by hanging 45 points on the Miami Heat the following game. Iverson is just plain getting sick with it!

Head coach Don Nelson’s up-tempo offense is like Mickey D’s to Davis – he’s lovin’ it! Although, if you look at the new slimmer and trimmer Davis, he isn’t loving cheeseburgers and fries as much anymore. While, he’s revealing that he is “the man” in the new offense – scoring points, passing off assists, and actually shooting decent percentages – let’s hope Davis doesn’t pull a Kirstie Alley and flaunt the weight loss. Baron, just show off your game!
Joe Johnson, PG/SG, Atlanta Hawks
Last Week’s Numbers of Note: 3 G; 30.3 PPG; 50.0 FG%; 82.4 FT%
Okay, tell me if you’ve heard this one before – Joe Johnson is no “ordinary Joe.” That must have been the twelfth time this week, right? Well, Johnson just can’t help making news and receiving the adulation of writers as he is just flat-out playing like an MVP right now. J.J. is showing a healthy appetite for putting the ball in the basket and this week isn’t any sort of fluke as Johnson’s been scoring more than Ken Jennings in a round of Jeopardy from the start of the season. It should be noted that J.J. ranked third overall last week in scoring with 28.7 points in three games. Just call him “extraordinary Joe.”

Dropping Dimes Draft Blog: Round 6, Pick 3

Round 6, Pick 3: Troy Murphy, PF, Golden State Warriors
At first glance, it may come off as me having a thing for incredibly tall, white guys. However, that’s not exactly the case. For a squad that has the guard positions locked down, but does not exactly have the three-point gunners that I’d prefer to have with a small-ball team, what better available big man to acquire than Troy Murphy?
I took a heavy gamble on Murphy in several leagues a few years back. Yea, the one where he played less than 30 games with a bum foot. That one. However, after two straight seasons of over 70 games, I think it’s safe to say that the guy is fully healed. Oh, and have I mentioned the new head coach in Golden State? Not drawing comparisons here, but the last power forward to play full-time Nellie ball wasn’t exactly too shabby.

Dropping Dimes Draft Blog: Round 5, Pick 3

When Mike Montgomery was coach of the Golden State Warriors, there was an obvious rift between him and his star point guard. Not anything to the Larry Brown/Stephon Marbury level, but it was pretty bad. For example, when Montgomery would call a play, the PG in question would run another play. Yeah, I think it was time for someone to move on, and in today’s sports market, it’s ALWAYS going to be the coach. So, good bye Montgomery… hello, Don Nelson! From the 1988-89 season to the ‘94-‘95 season, Nelson had moderate successful teams with the Warriors, making the playoffs four out of his seven season, even winning 50 and 55 games during two seasons. Why mention all of this? Nelson was voted one of the 10 greatest coaches of all-time during the ‘96-‘97 season, had great regular season success in his prevoius stop with the Dallas Mavericks, and those that handle the rock for him - Sidney Moncrief, Tim Hardaway, Steve Nash - always excelled under his running offense.
Baron Davis will love playing for Uncle Nelly.
