Early H2H MVPs?
Posted by Alvin Lai Categories: H2H, Site Announcements, Talent

Yahoo leagues give fantasy GMs access to something they call “MVPs”; check it out if you ever have a chance. This tool looks at how many times a player makes up part of a roster in the top 500 public leagues. They have separate analyses for rotisserie and head-to-head leagues. Since our experts league is h2h, the focus is on that here.
Not surprisingly, a consensus top four pick headlines the list. Consider it an early Christmas if you are currently riding high with Amare Stoudemire packing lots of punch to your team. Interestingly, among the top 500 teams in public h2h leagues, Amare can be found on only 21.0% of them which translates into one in every five teams. According to “MVPs” here is a team of the players most connected to success after two weeks of play.

Dropping Dimes Mock Draft: Round 4, Pick 6 - Chris Kaman
Posted by Alvin Lai Categories: H2H, Pacific Division, Los Angeles Clippers, Site Features, Talent

This team needs a center. Dirk Nowitzki remains a very safe and reliable first round pick, but he lost his center eligibility years ago, his defensive stats have been in decline. Plus, although he picked it up at the end of the year, overall his three-point shooting is not enough of an impact to negate the lack of blocks and relative lack of rebounds. Baron Davis and Paul Pierce represent an exciting and formidable fantasy back-court. That next level tier of guards comes up in the fifth and sixth rounds, so it is a green light to go big here.
Currently this guy has an average draft position of 49.0 on Yahoo, so we tab him a bit earlier than that here at 42nd overall.
Round 4, Pick 6: Chris Kaman, C, Los Angeles Clippers
The Fig Cap: Hey Dirk, we get to roll together on this team just like Team Germany!

The Fig Cap: “Hey, B-Diddy, you’re wearing your old uniform, bro.”
“WhatyoutalkingaboutChris?!?!?!?”
Baron Davis will be taking the Boom Dizzle down from NorCal to SoCal as he will no longer sport his beard in the Yay Area, but instead in the City of Angels where no doubt his ability to drain buckets (and miss them like he was Stevie Wonder), drop the rock (bathroom humor not intended), and be a threat on the floor will no doubt thrill the fans at the Clip Joint! Yes… I’m talking about the Los Angeles Clippers and, believe it or not, it’s totally possible for their fans to be thrilled. Seriously. Why are you laughing?

Dropping Dimes Two-on-Two Tourney: Round 1, Games 5 and 6

Props to Sarge for his piece that landed on Yahoo sports. If you are into baseball, check it out. I asked Sarge for his secret to success once. He said it helps to be really, really, really good looking. We all can’t be Zoolanders like Sarge, but we can keep things rolling on in our two-on-two tourney.
Yao Ming continues to sit out of this year’s playoffs. His Houston Rockets showed some guts by winning Game 3 in Utah, but they now head home down 3-1. Regardless of the the goings on in the real world, his name has been called to step onto the court for our tourney, where we assume he is at full health and in peak condition. Who gets to partner up with Yao? Check it out.

Dropping Dimes Two-on-Two Tourney: Round 1, Games 3 and 4

LBJ and his Cavs got the job done against the Washington Wizards in game one of their first round series. Confidence should be admired, but adding fuel to the fire against someone like LeBron seems like risky business. Just ask Chris Bosh’s girlfriend.
Let’s recap the opening two games and set up the two-on-two matches for the upcoming week.

So, yeah, this is the debut of this column. I hope everyone likes it, as I’m filling in for Dennis Velasco and his “Fantasy Jump-Off,” because he has decided to take a leave of absence of sorts from the fantasy basketball world for bigger and better things. Best of luck to Dennis, and a big thanks from me and anyone who has ever worked with the guy or read his stuff and used it.
The Fig Cap: Now that is a sweet ‘do.

2007-08 Preseason Center Rankings
Posted by Scott Sargent Categories: H2H, Roto, Site Features, Talent
If draft position can attest to position scarcity, people look no further. In most fantasy leagues, owners are required to start two centers, providing for quite a quandary given the decrease in the use of the big man over time. When you do finally lock up a solid center, chances are that you’ll get plenty of blocks and rebounds, but how many centers are top scoring options on their team? Can you find one that will not decimate your free throw shooting? Do any of them hit threes?
Centers are the necessary evil of fantasy basketball, and if you want to survive, you’re going to have to ensure that you have at least two solid options. A quick glance at this list and you won’t find model citizens of health, so even two is a bit thin. Most of this list will be gone by the time round three is finished, so while those other positions are looking very nice, plan ahead or you could be regretting your decision come round 10. Does it hurt to use draft picks on guys that will most likely give no more than four categories? Sure does, but not as much as starting guys that give considerably less than that that were drafted later on. Here’s a breakdown of the big men you’re going to want to target on draft day.

Injury Lowdown-Elton Brand is out!
Posted by Ron Chow Categories: Injuries, Pacific Division, Los Angeles Clippers, Site Features
PF Elton Brand will not be patrolling the post for the Los Angeles Clippers till sometime 2008. Brand ruptured his left Achilles tendon on Friday during his daily workout. Brand is expected to undergo surgery in the next week.
The normal recovery time for an injury of this severity is usually a year which could force Brand to miss the entire 2007-2008 season. The Clippers have received preliminary medical reports that Brand will be sidelined for only 6 months which may mean he could return to action in February.

Do-Over Mock Draft
Posted by Alvin Lai Categories: NBA Draft, Old School, Site Features
Are you tired of reading the same mock draft article over and over? Have you had enough cheese with that whine they are serving in Boston? Perhaps there are visions of possibilities dancing in your heads after hearing about Kobe’s recent trade demand?
Welcome to the Dropping Dimes Do-Over Draft! We allow each franchise (remember when we called them teams? And “cities” were where they played?) to do-over one of their own draft picks. But unlike this re-writing of Celtics history, where Tim Duncan, Tracy McGrady and Steve Nash miraculously ended up on the same team and play together forever until everybody knows their names, this draft clings to some shred of reality.
