Knicks Gallinari Done For Season?

While I’m thinking that there were not many of you banking on a successful season from rookie Danilo Gallinari, I couldn’t help but point out another great draft by the New York Knicks.
Bothered by a bulging disc in his back, Gallinari has had an MRI and things are not looking good.
“His back just flared up again,” Coach Mike D’Antoni said. “He was making progress, and then one morning he said he couldn’t put his pants on.”
Test results were not immediately available. Team officials are hopeful that Gallinari can avoid surgery, but they cannot rule it out.
Now given that Gallinari would be wearing warm-ups for most of the game, the ability to put pants on is pretty vital. Wilson Chandler, Quentin Richardson and David Lee benefit the most from this news. I’d like to include Jared Jeffries here, but he’s Jared Jeffries.
And here is where I remind Knicks fans that Eric Gordon, D.J. Augustin, and Jerryd Bayless were all available with the sixth overall selection.

Dropping Dimes Mock Draft: The Fifth Round

The season has started, so we have decided to wrap up our mock draft blog. Unfortunately we only got through four rounds. Refer to the master list for a recap of the picks. Hopefully your own draft(s) went well, and my condolences if you drafted Greg Oden. Oden obviously has a lot of potential and hopefully his ankle injury on opening night is not serious.

Sleeper Alert: David Lee

As a proud former owner of the backboard breaking David Lee, this news out of New York is very refreshing for the big man’s fantasy value under Mike D’Antoni.
There are many reasons starting [David] Lee with Zach Randolph up front is more logical in D’Antoni’s speedball attack. Lee can run the floor, is a better rebounder, passer and decision-maker than [Eddy] Curry. The only thing Curry has on Lee is being a more potent low-post scorer in a half-court set.
But that’s mostly obsolete in this offense, and Randolph can provide low-post points. Simply put, a Randolph-Lee front court is a more sensible tandem.
Oh, and don’t forget that Lee will be in a contract year this season. Money makes the man do crazy things, especially when it comes to the box score.

Stat’s All Folks: The Season Finale

It’s over. Go ahead and breathe that sigh of relief if you won on the final week of the season - THE championship or the consolation title - a win is a win. For those of you that lost, scream but know that the constant waves of anxiety are now over. Fortunately, I came out on the winning end of the PFS Experts League, beating SI.com Fantasy Sports Editor, James Quintong. Sorry, JQ, but someone had to win and I certainly don’t mind it being myself. I also won the DroppingDimes.com Roto Experts League, barely beating PFS and SI.com’s Matt Satten… by half a point! That’s 0.5!!! But enough about me.
Let’s get to the stats and those players that excelled in them (Blue Chippers), gave more production in the various categories relative to where they were drafted (Value Players), and those players that disappointed (Duds) this past season. I’ll review the big three categories a little more heavily since they’re the main categories for a reason. Afterwards, I’ll do a quick hit type of deal with treys, steals, and blocks, looking mostly at the positive to end on a happy note.

Note that you won’t always see the superstar player written about in this column, otherwise it would be LeBron James or Steve Nash every week. So, check out who’s bullish and who’s bearish coming into the week.

POINTSBULLISH
Yao Ming, C, Houston Rockets
Last Week’s Numbers of Note: 4 G; 34.8 PPG; 50.9 FG%; 91.2 FT%
Usually, the top scorers are coming from everywhere BUT the center position. Indeed, the dominating scoring big man in the middle is a dying breed, but Yao Ming refuses to lay down softly and go the way of the Thighmaster. Face it people, Yao is here to stay unlike the Suzanne Somers product and he is undeniably the best center in the NBA. In his four games last week, Yao scored no less than 32 points in each contest and was feeling it so much he even attempted a trey from downtown! He miseed, but that’s about the only shot he’ll ever clang off the rim. And unlike other players that make a living down in the post, Yao hits his free throws allowing him to accumulate points from the charity stripe. Obviously, hold on to Yao like your league championship depended on it because it just might.
