Stat’s All Folks: HIBACHI!!!
Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: H2H, Props, Roto, Site Features, Talent, Boston Celtics, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto Raptors, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Bobcats, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Hornets, San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Portland Trailblazers, Seattle Supersonics, Utah Jazz, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings
Stat’s All Folks will be a week-to-week stock market look at the standard cumulative categories – points, assists, rebounds, three-pointers made, steals, and blocks. I’ll be calling out the “bulls” and “bears” in each category, in order to help you assess your portfolio of players on your fantasy basketball team(s) and whether you should sell, hold, and/or diversify your assets.
Note that you won’t always see the superstar player written about in this column, otherwise it would be LeBron James or Steve Nash every week. So, check out who’s bullish and who’s bearish coming into the week.
Statistics are through December 7th – December 13th.
POINTS
BULLISH
Gilbert Arenas, PG, Washington Wizards
Last Week’s Numbers of Note: 3 G; 35.7 PPG; 47.9 FG%; 78.1 FT%
What does Benihana and Arenas have in common? HIBACHI!!! Apparently, whenever Agent Zero takes a shot, he’s saying the word “hibachi” with each stroke. This is just another example of Arenas’ quirky ways, but there’s no questioning it’s working, is there? Arenas is scoring a little more than six points more in the month of December than he did in November, thanks to slicing to the basket and getting to the charity stripe almost ten times a game. There hasn’t been this much success being off-kilter since Pee Wee Herman. Arenas’ stock is high, so keep your hands on him.

Round 4, Pick 12: Caron Butler, SF, Washington Wizards
Given the first pick in the odd rounds, math and logic present fantasy owners with the last pick in the even rounds. So, after swiping guys like LeBron James and Vince Carter in rounds one and three respectively, I’ve had to witness (Cleveland pun, very intended) several targeted players fly off of the board to the other owners – something that is highly likely to happen when given the opportunity to draft first overall. However, I was able to accommodate my team very well with the selection of the second of back-to-back Wizards off of the board, and one of the most underrated players in the league: Caron Butler.

Antawn Jamison is riding shotgun to Gilbert Arenas in the Washington Wizard’s offense, but that’s not a bad thing. It’s like riding in the passenger seat of a Ferrari, so who the heck cares who’s driving! Last year, Antawn stepped in as the secondary scorer with the departure of Larry Hughes to Cleveland. He was close to joining the exclusive 20-10 big-man club averaging 20.5 points and 9.3 rebounds last year.
Round 4, Pick 11: Antawn Jamison, SF/PF, Washington Wizards
