Trade Reaction: Marion to Toronto, O’Neal to Miami

Description
In a deal expected to be finalized Friday afternoon, the Miami Heat traded Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks to the Toronto Raptors for Jermaine O’Neal and Jamario Moon.

Has a guy ever been traded hours after hitting a game-winner?  Well he has now.

Anyways, this trade better suits the Heat’s system, and fulfills Pat Riley’s desire for a big.  But for Toronto, it makes them a legitimate playoff team.  At the moment, they are second-to-last in the East, but only four games out of a playoff spot.  This gives them a trio of Jose Calderon, Marion, and Chris Bosh that might be capable of going on a tear and making some noise.

As far as fantasy goes, one has to assume Marion’s numbers go up.  We’ll likely see Bosh play some center and Marion play at the four, because behind O’Neal, was Jake Voskuhl on the depth chart.  Winners here are Marion, Jason Kapono, and Joey Graham.  They’ll be picking up Moon’s minutes plus some of the minutes created by the shifting around of Bosh to center.

On the Miami side, not much should change.  They basically had no center, so this helps there.  Michael Beasley might get some more minutes, and it remains to be seen if Moon starts.  If not, Beasley would likely get the nod.  This effectively kills any value that Jamaal Magloire and Joel Anthony had in deep leagues.

I’m predicting some noise made by Toronto…

Dropping Dimes Mock Draft Blog 2007: Round 5, Pick 9-LaMarcus Aldridge

LaMarcus Aldridge

Some people have all the luck. You probably know someone that seems to be in the right place at the right time. You hear stories about people on flights getting bumped to business class from economy class because the airline overbooked economy. Then there are people that walk into department stores and find an awesome sale on something you have been looking for for months. LaMarcus Aldridge is one of these lucky people. How else can you explain Zach Randolph getting traded in the offseason to the Knicks and treasured draft pick Greg Oden missing this season with micro-fracture knee surgery. Opportunity has the door wide open for LaMarcus Aldridge to have a monster season.

Stat’s All Folks: Doing It Preseason Style!

Kevin Martin takes it to the rack!I have to admit, I was brainstorming and thinking of different ways to write an introductory paragraph about how the NBA was back, but for some reason I just couldn’t come up with anything.  I wrote out the ubiquitous Star Wars reference about Episode V, but didn’t want to appear too fanboyish the first time out.  Then Apocalypse Now hit my head with that whole “I love the smell of…,” but thought of the connotations and chucked that idea.  Then the Rodney Dangerfield classic, Back to School came to mind and how the NBA doesn’t get any respect, but didn’t want to go on a diatribe validating the League.

So, what am I saying?

I watch entirely too many movies, but I’m also way too excited about the NBA being back to think straight.  However, I’ll pop in Brad Pitt’s Meet Joe Black into the DVD player to bore me and calm my nerves enough to write this article.

(Ten minutes later; yeah, that quickly)

During the regular season, the aim of Stat’s All Folks will be to take a stock market look at the standard cumulative categories – points, assists, rebounds, three-pointers made, steals, and blocks.  I’ll be calling out the “bulls” and “bears” in each category, in order to help you assess your portfolio of players on your fantasy basketball team(s) and whether you should sell, hold, and/or diversify your assets.

Here’s the preseason installment of Stat’s All Folks.  Jagshemash, NB and A!
