Early H2H MVPs?

Posted by Alvin Lai Categories: H2H, Site Announcements, Talent

Amare and Santa
Yahoo leagues give fantasy GMs access to something they call “MVPs”; check it out if you ever have a chance. This tool looks at how many times a player makes up part of a roster in the top 500 public leagues. They have separate analyses for rotisserie and head-to-head leagues. Since our experts league is h2h, the focus is on that here.

Not surprisingly, a consensus top four pick headlines the list. Consider it an early Christmas if you are currently riding high with Amare Stoudemire packing lots of punch to your team. Interestingly, among the top 500 teams in public h2h leagues, Amare can be found on only 21.0% of them which translates into one in every five teams. According to “MVPs” here is a team of the players most connected to success after two weeks of play.

Dropping Dimes Mock Draft: Round 4, Pick 3 - Jason Kidd

Jason Kidd tugging on shorts
Everyone who has ever played ball, at any level, knows the universal tell for being gassed is a guy bent over, tugging on his shorts. The vultures circle Jason Kidd this year, after he did not lead the Dallas Mavericks to any success in the playoffs, and while he played as the starter on the United States basketball team, from what I saw and heard, both Chris Paul and Deron Williams outplayed him and were used more down the stretch in games. Should Jason Kidd prepare to ride into the sunset on a hall-of-fame career?

Once a surefire first-rounder, the strengths and weaknesses in his game have established themselves for many years now. The question remains, has he slipped far enough in drafts that he now becomes very good value?

LeBron’s Minutes on the Decline?

LeBron James No fantasy draft will go down without LeBron James going among the top three, dependant upon scoring.  But one thing that owners may want to consider is the minutes that James may (or may not) play this year.

There has been an ongoing concern over the amount of time that James spends on the floor, but most of this is due to the lack of supporting cast that dons the Wine and Gold.  But with the addition of Mo Williams, and the re-signing of Delonte West, Danny Ferry may finally have a few more pieces to help keep things together while James gets a bit of rest.  Cleveland’s Terry Pluto hinted towards this movement this weekend, and I do not think it is too far-fetched.

James just finished playing in the Olympics.  The Cavaliers fell a bit flat in the playoffs last season, especially towards the end of games.  And while we heard this in the past about several other stars (specifically Steve Nash or Jason Kidd), do not be surprised if James isn’t logging 40-plus minutes every night.  Of course, do not be shocked if he plays every minute of the season; just know that it isn’t the initial plan.

Of the season…

For the third annual DD Mock Draft.  The mock where the fellas over at this here blog will aim to bring you as many mock selections as possible before the start of the regular season.  But while other mock drafts will give you an entire round with little analysis with each selection, we here will give you one pick at a time.  With each pick, you’ll get the thoughts behind it as well as the up/down side to taking said player at each respective slot.

With that said…Let’s get into it.

Prospect Pro Specs: O. J. Mayo

Posted by Alvin Lai Categories: NBA Draft, Site Features, Talent

O.J, Mayo driving towards the draftThe NBA crowd did not get much of a chance to see O. J. Mayo in March as his USC Trojans lost in the first round to Michael Beasley and Kansas State. The hype around Mayo has been noticeable for a couple of years now. If not for the NBA’s age-related draft eligibility rule, chances are Mayo would have skpped out on the college experience to head straight for the pros.

Cue all the condiment jokes/references e.g. hold the mayo and all that. This guy’s gonna make a GM, a franchise and their fan base pretty excited for next year.

Yeah, so Saturday night wasn’t as fantasy jam-packed as Friday night.  Big deal.  It’s not every night we see multiple 20-rebound games.  Still, a few guys stayed hot and went off last night.

The Fig Cap: “Yeah, hey Raja, can you miss about 75 more games?  Thanks bud.”
