Stat’s All, Folks: Redd Is Back!
Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: Disses, H2H, Injuries, Props, Rookies, Roto, Site Features, Waiver Pick Ups
Thanks to All-Star weekend, there is a small sample size of games to draw from, so I’ll tweak it up a bit this week by highlighting players and giving you blurbs for each one. There will be no suggestions for players to keep an eye on or ones you shouldn’t believe the hype for. However, I think you’ll live and all will still be well in your fantasy basketball world… unless you own Dwyane Wade. Read on at your own discretion, but you may need some tissues.
Statistics are from February 16th – February 22nd
POINTSBULLISH
Michael Redd, SG, Milwaukee Bucks
Last Week’s Numbers of Note: 2 G; 27.5 PPG; 43.5 FG%; 72.7 FT%
Much to the relief of the Bucks and many fantasy owners alike, Redd is back on the court and he’s pretty much picking up where he left off. It was a little bit shaky in Redd’s first game back as he “only” scored 17 points shooting an ugly 7-for-18 from the field, but his performance the following night allayed any fear. On the second night of a back-to-back, Redd scored 38 points in 40 minutes, including hitting six three-pointers. That performance shows that Redd may be getting his game legs and wrists back sooner than later.

Stat’s All Folks: Yao = Best Center
Posted by Dennis Velasco Categories: H2H, Injuries, Rookies, Roto, Site Features, Talent, Boston Celtics, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto Raptors, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Bobcats, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Hornets, San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Portland Trailblazers, Seattle Supersonics, Utah Jazz, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings
Stat’s All Folks will be a week-to-week stock market look at the standard cumulative categories – points, assists, rebounds, three-pointers made, steals, and blocks. I’ll be calling out the “bulls” and “bears” in each category, in order to help you assess your portfolio of players on your fantasy basketball team(s) and whether you should sell, hold, and/or diversify your assets.
Note that you won’t always see the superstar player written about in this column, otherwise it would be LeBron James or Steve Nash every week. So, check out who’s bullish and who’s bearish coming into the week.
Statistics are through December 14th – December 20th.
POINTSBULLISH
Yao Ming, C, Houston Rockets
Last Week’s Numbers of Note: 4 G; 34.8 PPG; 50.9 FG%; 91.2 FT%
Usually, the top scorers are coming from everywhere BUT the center position. Indeed, the dominating scoring big man in the middle is a dying breed, but Yao Ming refuses to lay down softly and go the way of the Thighmaster. Face it people, Yao is here to stay unlike the Suzanne Somers product and he is undeniably the best center in the NBA. In his four games last week, Yao scored no less than 32 points in each contest and was feeling it so much he even attempted a trey from downtown! He miseed, but that’s about the only shot he’ll ever clang off the rim. And unlike other players that make a living down in the post, Yao hits his free throws allowing him to accumulate points from the charity stripe. Obviously, hold on to Yao like your league championship depended on it because it just might.

Injury Lowdown: One Thumb Down - Mike Bibby To Miss First Two Weeks
Posted by Ron Chow Categories: Injuries, Pacific Division, Sacramento Kings, Site Features

Mike Bibby injured his thumb in an exhibition game against the New Orleans Hornets on Sunday. It was diagnosed that Mike Bibby has a mallet thumb – an injury in which a finger tendon becomes detached from a bone, preventing the finger to fully extend. Ouch!
Fantasy Lowdown:
New addition John Salmons will get a little more burn in Bibby’s absence. John Salmons should start at PG and should be considered in deep leagues. Last year as a starter, Salmons averaged 9.5 points, 4.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds with a decent 46.5 FG%. Jason Hart will see some time backing up Salmon and should not be picked up.
For H2H leagues, the Sacramento Kings’ schedule for Week 1 & 2 consists of three games each. For those who have drafted Mike Bibby (I am included) you will need to suck it up and make do. For leagues that have not drafted yet do not drop Bibby too far down your cheat sheets. If it MUST happen it is better that the injury happened early in the fantasy season instead during your playoff run. Mike Bibby in the last three seasons has only missed two games so chances are he will be healthy for the rest of the season.

Round 3, Pick 10: Brad Miller, C, Sacramento Kings
Dominance? Not at all. One of the most well-rounded big men in the league? Most definitely. While Brad Miller has never really been on the forefront of scoring options for the Kings, dating back to the Chris Webber days, the guy still gets it done in other areas, contributing across the board for fantasy rosters. While most big men lack free-throw skills or the ability to pass the ball once it hits the low post, Miller has the innate ability to not only see the floor, but drop free throws at an astounding percentage for a seven-footer.
