Dropping Dimes Two-on-Two Tourney: Round 1, Games 5 and 6

Props to Sarge for his piece that landed on Yahoo sports. If you are into baseball, check it out. I asked Sarge for his secret to success once. He said it helps to be really, really, really good looking. We all can’t be Zoolanders like Sarge, but we can keep things rolling on in our two-on-two tourney.
Yao Ming continues to sit out of this year’s playoffs. His Houston Rockets showed some guts by winning Game 3 in Utah, but they now head home down 3-1. Regardless of the the goings on in the real world, his name has been called to step onto the court for our tourney, where we assume he is at full health and in peak condition. Who gets to partner up with Yao? Check it out.

Dropping Dimes Two-on-Two Tourney: Round 1, Games 3 and 4

LBJ and his Cavs got the job done against the Washington Wizards in game one of their first round series. Confidence should be admired, but adding fuel to the fire against someone like LeBron seems like risky business. Just ask Chris Bosh’s girlfriend.
Let’s recap the opening two games and set up the two-on-two matches for the upcoming week.

Beyond the Arc: Week 17

Well, the week is over, so hopefully everyone won their matchups. Short weeks can either be a good pick-me-up if you need some wins, or a very bad ordeal if you have a good team that lost to an inferior one due to games played.
Let me preface this All-Star edition by saying I truly hope The Big Easy pulls this off. It’s probably going to be a big factor in whether basketball stays in New Orleans. Sadly, with the attendance figures down there, it’s looking like a negative. But I think if they can pull off a great All-Star Weekend, that may change. One can only hope.
The Fig Cap: The hometown All-Star came up short in the three-point shootout, but didn’t the rest of the week.

The Rich Get Richer: Steve Francis, Free Agent

I’m not sure where I went wrong, but while I’m sitting here in an office that faces a parking garage, Steve Francis is not only fresh off of a $30 million buyout, but he’s now the NBA’s newest free agent. A free agent that’s likely to sign a deal with a very good team, for even more money.
The Miami Herald reports that “Franchise” cleared waivers last night and will now test the free agent market. Conveniently, Francis has narrowed down his list of possible destinations. Here’s a hint: Milwaukee is not on the list.
Of the four teams that the veteran has chosen to be possible suitors, three of them are Western Conference teams looking to go a bit further in the playoffs than their past suggests, and one Eastern Conference team that I hear has a fairly nice beach scene near by.

Dropping Dimes One-on-One Tourney: Games 11 and 12

Cue the music! Nothing gets me pumped like classic Rocky! Our fight card as usual features two great contests, but first we survey what has transpired over the past week!
And if the Rocky vs. Drago reference does not give you a hint, this week the theme involves a USA-homegrown player versus someone from international lands! Perhaps there is a bit of the underdog versus the intimidating champ, but which is which? You decide!

Dropping Dimes One-on-One Tourney: Round 1, Games 9 and 10

With Games 7 and 8 wrapping up, our one-on-one tourney finds itself halfway through the first round! So far the winners include Kobe Bryant, Gilbert Arenas, and Tony Parker. Unlike the conference semi-finals, Shawn Marion gets to move on with Tim Duncan.
The buzz has been about how suspensions to Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw tainted the Spurs-Suns series. Also it has come to light what a cheap shot artist Bruce Bowen is. And I do mean artist...he’s the Picasso of the gut punch! Have no fear as Bowen did not receive an invitation to our tourney. But I do have him pictured defending one of our contestants, someone who has gone on record saying just how much he appreciates Bruce’s play.
