Stat’s All Folks: Eye On The NBA Draft

Go Greg! Get Busy!It seems that the NBA Finals ended almost quickly as they started, but for all of us NBA draftniks whose teams were not the Spurs or Cavs it’s time to more concretely look forward to next season - it’s NBA Draft time.  However, NBA general managers and scouts aren’t the only ones that need to keep an eye out for prospects to draft.  Every
fantasy basketball manager would be wise to stay on top of the incoming rooks.  Using my NBA Mock Draft over at About.com as a guide, here are the potential fantasy values for ten of the more noteworthy players that you should keep tabs on.

Injury Lowdown: One Thumb Down - Mike Bibby To Miss First Two Weeks

Description

Mike Bibby injured his thumb in an exhibition game against the New Orleans Hornets on Sunday. It was diagnosed that Mike Bibby has a mallet thumb – an injury in which a finger tendon becomes detached from a bone, preventing the finger to fully extend. Ouch!

Fantasy Lowdown:

New addition John Salmons will get a little more burn in Bibby’s absence. John Salmons should start at PG and should be considered in deep leagues. Last year as a starter, Salmons averaged 9.5 points, 4.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds with a decent 46.5 FG%. Jason Hart will see some time backing up Salmon and should not be picked up.

For H2H leagues, the Sacramento Kings’ schedule for Week 1 & 2 consists of three games each.  For those who have drafted Mike Bibby (I am included) you will need to suck it up and make do. For leagues that have not drafted yet do not drop Bibby too far down your cheat sheets. If it MUST happen it is better that the injury happened early in the fantasy season instead during your playoff run. Mike Bibby in the last three seasons has only missed two games so chances are he will be healthy for the rest of the season.

Dropping Dimes’ Experts Roto League: Ron Chow’s Team

Kevin Martin

It can be hard to pick in the middle. You miss out on the top four or five options in the game. After that, 11-12 players go off the board between each and every pick you make. Ron landed in the number six position for our draft and I think he fared quite well. He is relying on some veterans to bounce but also has a nice collection of younger players ready to step up their game.

For a list of all the draft picks, click here. Let us now take a look at what Ron thinks of his team.

Dropping Dimes Draft Blog: Round 3, Pick 11

Ron ArtestRound 3, Pick 11: Ron Artest, SF, Sacramento Kings

Artest may be a Tru Warier, but he’s a horrible speller.  However, last I checked spelling isn’t a category and if it was, I’d draft Martynas Andriuskevicius number one overall because if he can spell his name, he can spell anything.  But back to Artest… I don’t think there’s any question that he’s one of the most talented players in the game today.  But, he’s also one of the most volatile and unpredictable.  I think there was some sort of fracas, some hullaballoo if you will, a couple of seasons ago, but I just can’t remember what happened.  And like Ron Burgundy, it seemed like a “big deal” at the time.

Okay, I’m kidding.
