Dropping Dimes Mock Draft: Round 4, Pick 8 - Yao Ming

Yao Ming
Ladies and gentlemen, here is the make-or-break pick of the year. Once worthy of a first round pick, he has crushed fantasy GMs across the land. Or rather, the injury bugs that keep biting him have led to many crying themselves to sleep over a lost fantasy season.

Yahoo still has him ranked in the top 25 and he is getting drafted pretty early. Can you really risk Yao Ming breaking your heart again?

Dropping Dimes Mock Draft: Round 1, Pick 8 -  Elton Brand

Elton BrandA long time ago, when I went to back to school in the fall, one of the assignments I always looked forward to was the “What you did over the summer” write up. It gave one the opportunity to recall the events and experiences of the past summer. Can you imagine if Elton Brand had to do a write-up for this past summer? It might read something like “…woke up one morning and decided to opt out of contract that would have paid me $16 million this season…looking for new long term contract with the Clippers…new PG Baron Davis joins Clippers and noted that he would like to ball with me…get a phone call from agent that Philadelphia 76ers are interested…decided the lure of Philly steak sandwiches was too much and sign with the 76ers for 5 years, $82 million …” Damn, what an eventful summer for Elton Brand?! It makes that family BBQ of mine look kind of boring.

James Posey Man, you take a week off for some much-needed vacation time and you come home to a world of basketball craziness.  Unsigned free agents looking overseas?  Huge names continuing to be on the move?

And with our mock draft coming up, all of these transactions, or would-be transactions, will impact you on draft day.  Sure, your football drafts are right around the corner, but why not take a break and study the hoops?

The Move: James Posey to New Orleans

Dropping Dimes Two on Two Tourney: Round 3, Games 1 and 2

Hey folks, sorry for the delay in posting the next match-ups. It’s summertime and sometimes the days just blur together.

It has been an interesting off-season thus far with a few trades, a draft that pretty much went as expected at the top, and some big free agent signings. Yahoo! has a little mock draft going on for anyone jonesing for some fantasy hoop material. I imagine our pick-by-pick mock draft blog will be starting up in the next few weeks, so stay on the lookout for that.

There were no comments on last week’s picks, so I’ll be putting my own two cents on the games this week, with a little help from one of our original writers, Ron Chow. Thanks for the assist, my friend. Let’s finish off the second round and move to the semi-finals.

The Fig Cap:

“Yo!”

“Yao!”

“Yo. we’re not on the same team for this thing. So you change.”

“No, you change.”

“Yo!”

“Yao!”

“Okay, fine, I’ll change, but you have to pay me some cash.”

“Can I write a cheque?”

Prospect Pro Specs: Michael Beasley

Be EasyThe Knicks had the fifth worst record this past season. How would “Be Easy” play in the Big Apple? The educated guess would have to be the Knickerbocker faithful would be supremely pleased if the ping pong balls dropped their way when the draft lottery takes place. The Knicks have a new coach in Mike D’Antoni. Who wants to bet he will miss the desert when he’s trying to turn Zach Randolph and Eddy Curry into the new Amare and Matrix show?

How the Knicks get made over will be one of the stories to follow this summer. Will it be another “cold” lottery card that lets the Knicks land the big prize on draft day? (Look into the Patrick Ewing draft conspiracy stories if you do not know what I’m referring to.)

Dropping Dimes Two-on-Two Tourney: Round 1, Games 7 and 8

Joe J and Steve Nash

The Fig Cap: Hey, where are you watching the second round?

Man, do I have some big shoes to fill or what?  Pinch-hitting for Alvin today, I get to break down what could be two of the best match-ups we’ve seen thus far.

While we get to see who won last week’s battles, this week brings us a few big-named bigs against two big-named guards as well as a match-up that features the recently crowned Rookie of the Year facing a former two-time MVP.  While you will likely be able guess at least two of the eight from these clues alone, let’s check out the rest of the field.

Dropping Dimes Two-on-Two Tourney: Round 1, Games 5 and 6

Yao Ming stuffs Gerald WallaceProps to Sarge for his piece that landed on Yahoo sports. If you are into baseball, check it out. I asked Sarge for his secret to success once. He said it helps to be really, really, really good looking. We all can’t be Zoolanders like Sarge, but we can keep things rolling on in our two-on-two tourney.

Yao Ming continues to sit out of this year’s playoffs. His Houston Rockets showed some guts by winning Game 3 in Utah, but they now head home down 3-1. Regardless of the the goings on in the real world, his name has been called to step onto the court for our tourney, where we assume he is at full health and in peak condition. Who gets to partner up with Yao? Check it out.

Wire to Wire - 03.04.08

Luis Scola - Fantasy BasketballWire to Wire aims to be your waiver wire resource for all of your fantasy basketball needs. It will dive into playing time trends, injury replacements, and even an occasional category specialist—all of which can be found on a typical waiver wire within your fantasy league at any given time

While owners are frantically looking for the players who will go from unknown to fantasy playoff superstars in the matter of weeks (Walter Herrmann circa 2007), we have all been confronted with a bevy of superstar injuries.  While the Gerald Wallace concussion hurts, no injury will likely impact the final weeks more than Houston’s Yao Ming calling it a season.  The rotations have ironed themselves out, and we now know who needs to be added where.  Hopefully your opponents have been asleep at the wheel as we have a ton of fantasy assets out there on the wire as we speak.

Gerald Wallace - Fantasy BasketballIt isn’t often that we have ourselves a five-game week for any team.  It also isn’t often that you would rather own Andrew Bogut than Chris Bosh.  Yes, you read that right.  As always, the Dropping Dimes staff is here for the lowdown on the rest of the Association.

Here’s a breakdown of this week’s games:
